Whispers in the Forest
Newtown Forest Association
Connecticut's Oldest Private Land Trust
For the third year in a row and our second consecutive year at the Nettleton Preserve, several Board Members including Coke Cramer, Bart Smith,
Bob Eckenrode and Guy Peterson and several volunteers (including Pat Barkman and Joe Hovious of the Conservation Commission, Carol Ando
and Bob Merola (see page 2)) undertook several projects which including weeding and mulching the native plants installed in the prior year, trail
maintenance and invasive removal.
The NFA was quite pleased, that with little or no attention, most all of the native shrubs planted in the prior year survived and were doing quite well.
With a little weeding and the addition of some mulch they should be all set for another year. The NFA was also able to utilize it newly acquired used
tractor/loader it acquired which will certainly help fewer people be able to accomplish a lot more in a short period of time. Thanks again to all of our
volunteers.
