Due to some other commitments St. Rose
based Cub Scout Pack 570 had, the Pack
could not attend one of the regularly
scheduled hikes the NFA offered.  As such,
Michelle DePinto (the proud scout parent
seen pictured on the right in uniform)
reached out to the NFA to see if the NFA
could lead their Pack on a hike at another
time.

Board members Guy Peterson, NFA
Treasurer and Cubmaster of Pack 70 (seen
in green to the right of the trunk of the
tree), Bob Eckenrode (photographer and
Board Member) and Sarah Brooks (resident
caretaker of the
Holcombe Wildlife
Preserve) led approximately 65 people on
an 1 1/2 hour hike through the trails of the
Holcombe Wildlife Preserve and Holcombe
Memorial Trails that make up approximately
150 acres of protected open space across
meadows, fields, wooded trails and wetlands on this brisk Saturday morning.  The NFA, as responsible stewards of
its properties, had diverted the planned trail route around some of the wetter trails as several inches of rain
fell
earlier in the week.  The volume of people traversing the wet areas of the trails would have caused long-term
damage and it is not uncommon for the NFA to close off sections of the trails when these conditions exists.   The
hike came to the end at very top of the hill to take advantage of the late fall views.   While the children enjoyed
drinks and snacks at this time it was apparent that the parents took advantage of the break for a brief rest.
