| November 8, 2007 - New Residents join NFA Board The NFA welcomes long-time Newtown resident Jim Wright and life-long Newtown resident Bart Smith to the NFA board. Jim has retired from both aviation and media careers and brings management and media/marketing skills to the Board. Jim (joined Board in Summer 2007) has been an outdoor enthusiast his entire life and has through-hiked the Appalachian Trail through the Smokies, through Connecticut and southern Massachusetts, and through the White and Presidential Mountains in New Hampshire. Jim was one of the original members of the First Selectman’s Ad Hoc Committee and is still involved with the Monroe rail-trail committee with a focus on seeing the rail-trail extended into Newtown. Bart (joined Board November 2007) comes to the NFA with years of experience in sales and marketing and will be invaluable to help increase membership and fundraising, public relations and to get more members and volunteers involved in property clean ups and restoration. Bart has been actively involved over the past year with the NFA as a Good Neighbor by looking after several of our properties where he rolled up his sleeves and dug out invasives at last years Earth Day clean-up, has attended a Stewardship Committee meeting as a volunteer and attended several other NFA events. Bart and his wife also have a special connection with our Holcombe Hill property as his wife was one of Josephine Holcombe’s close friends. The NFA Board is pleased have Jim and Bart join us. In addition to the intellectual capital and fresh ideas that Jim and Bart bring the board, the Board really hopes their efforts will help others in the community get involved and join the NFA. The NFA has periodic Stewardship Subcommittees meetings that focus on specific projects and would more than welcome your ability to offer some assistance. Please contact Guy Peterson at nfatreasurer@yahoo.com to get involved. Back to News Index |
