April 30, 2006 - 5PM - Eagle Scout Project Completed

Before this Newtown High School Senior and Boy Scout approached the NFA, the NFA’s newly formed Stewardship Committee had started
developing a wish list of projects that they would like to see materialize on its properties over the next few years.  Colin O'Connor contacted
our President, Martha Wright, who put the Scout in contact with the Stewardship Committee.  The Colin explained his idea about building a
trail on one of our properties and the Stewardship Committee identified a project that they thought would work.

Several members of the Stewardship committee and the Colin walked and planned a proposed trail that would connect the Holcombe Wildlife
Preserve Blue Trail with the White Trail on the Holcombe Memorial Trail.  The existing Blue Trail was an Eagle Scout Project completed
several years ago and this new trail will be a natural extension to that trail and will connect these two, approximately 80 acre, properties.  This
will provide hikers the opportunity for one of the longest hiking routes on any of its properties with a trail loop that will start and finish from
the same parking area.

We hope to formally dedicate the trail on June 3, 2006 prior to commencing the
Connecticut Trail Day Hike.

The Colin was responsible to plan the project, gather resources and coordinate its execution in order to fulfill  his service project requirement
towards earning his Eagle Scout Award.  This type of project demonstrates leadership on the part of the scout and will provide a trail that the
community will be proud of and cherish for years to come.
