The Hike will start at 10AM (PROMPTLY) and will take approximately 2 hours; however, there is an option to shorten the hike by taking an alternative route back to the parking area. The hike will travel through the fringe of several hay fields, divert into the woods, back into hay fields, climb to an elevated vernal pool, then descend before concluding on the top of Holcombe Hill, the highest point in Newtown, possibly Fairfield County, where hikers will have a completely unobstructed view of Fairfield, New Haven and Litchfield Counties. This will be the first of the NFA’s 2006 monthly planned hikes and will celebrate the Statewide CT Trails Day sponsored by the Connecticut Forest & Parks Association which expects many similar events to also take place simultaneously across CT. The remainder of the 2006 Trail Hike schedule will be published on our website and at our annual membership meeting on May 19th, 2006 @ Cyrenius H. Booth Library. These hikes occur monthly at various properties and are guided by one of our Board members. The NFA is a not-for-profit public charity. The NFA is one of CT’s oldest private land trusts, preserving property since 1924, and currently owns over 1,000 acres.
