In connection with Newtown’s Tercentennial Celebration this summer, the Newtown Forest Association, Connecticut’s
oldest private land trust, will be sponsoring monthly guided nature walks on some of its properties.  All residents are
welcome and membership is not required.

Each of these walks will be lead by one or more NFA Board Members who will explain the history of the property and the
NFA, discuss some of the plant and wildlife found on the property and communicate other land preservation activities
going on in and around Newtown.

These hikes will take between 1-2 hours and will be for people at all levels.  Family participation is encouraged as these
trails are family friendly.  My first grade son has made his way for all these trails.

As the sun and ticks are always a risk, we warn all hikers to dress properly and wear adequate sun and tick protection.
Upon the conclusion of each hike all should thoroughly inspect themselves for ticks.

All hikers will be responsible for any food and drink (water).  Hikes at the Holcombe Hill Preserve, where our offices are
located, will conclude at the vista plateau that will provide the best view that Newtown has to offer and a place to picnic
at the conclusion of the Hike.

2005 Summer Trails Walk Program
The summer 2004 rains have
finally taken its toll on the
driveway at the
Holcombe
Wildlife Preserve up to our
office and caretaker residence.
We have been donated some
engineered plans to a long-term
solution to fixing the constant
erosion problems faced.  We
plan on undertaking this project
shortly.
